The Rotary Club of Malda Central chartered on 30thApril 2003, has grown to become a beacon of service in the community. With its charter membership of 32 members, under the dynamic leadership of Rtn Dr Sayantan Gupta and the guiding hand of District Governor Rtn Dr. Tapan Kumar Roy during the Rotary Year 2002-03, the club has fostered a legacy of dedication, progress, and service to the society. One of the most remarkable milestones in the club’s history came in the Rotary Year 2015-16 when the Rotary Club of Malda Central was declared a 100% Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) Club. This recognition was achieved under the able guidance of Assistant Governor Rtn. Debapriya Saha and District Governor Rtn. Chandu Agarwal exemplifies the club’s commitment to supporting the Rotary Foundation and its projects. The club’s journey has been punctuated by various accolades, such as the prestigious R.I. Presidential Citation, which it has received consistently from the time of its chartering until today. Furthermore, the club has been a recipient of Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) recognition in multiple Rotary years, underscoring the active participation and contribution of its members towards Rotary’s global initiatives. A defining characteristic of the Rotary Club of Malda Central is its commitment to vocational service. The club has diligently worked towards uplifting the community through various training programs. For over 12 years, three vocational training programs – Sewing Training, Yoga Training, and Beautician Training – have been running successfully at the club’s venue, P.H. Rotary Sadan. These programs have equipped individuals with valuable skills, enabling them to improve their livelihoods and contribute positively to society. The club has consistently demonstrated its ability to organize and host significant Rotary events, including the successful hosting of the 29th Rotary District Conference, MAHANANDA. These events have served as important platforms for fellowship and exchange among Rotarians, allowing the club to contribute to the larger Rotary movement. Moreover, the club’s involvement in service initiatives extends beyond local boundaries. In the Rotary Year 2023-24, the club successfully hosted the International Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), creating an impact that resonated beyond the immediate community. The leadership development fostered by the Rotary Club of Malda Central has been exceptional. The club has produced four Assistant Governors and one District Governor, showing its capacity to nurture and groom leaders who go on to make significant contributions at higher levels within the Rotary organisation. Additionally, the club has been steadfast in its commitment to eradicating polio. With two members as part of the Polio Plus Society, the club continues to support Rotary’s efforts to end polio worldwide. In addition to its activities, the club is also deeply invested in youth development through its sponsored Rotaract Club, which currently boasts 21 active members. This club provides an opportunity for younger individuals to engage in meaningful service activities and leadership development. The club has a long-standing tradition of communication and engagement, exemplified by its monthly bulletin, Panchajanya, which has been regularly recognized by the district.
